St. Christopher’s Mission to Young People

The mission of St. Christopher’s Children and Youth Ministry is to create a safe and welcoming place for all young people to worship God and grow in their faith journey.  We live out this mission through communal worship, biblical education, service, relationships, and prayer.  Our role is to encourage and guide young people to experience God’s enlivening Presence in every aspect of their lives as well as in the lives of others.

Sunday Mornings:  All Are Welcome!

We offer a variety of ministries for children and young people.  During the 10:00AM worship service children and youth may participate in age-appropriate ministries:

  • Nursery
  • Sunday School
  • Confirmation Class
  • Young Adult Meeting

Please explore below to find out what’s available!

Nursery

The nursery is available for all children from birth to pre-kindergarten.  It is located in the parish hall, room #6 (straight ahead when you walk in).  This service is available every Sunday morning for all families with newborn children.

Sunday School

Sunday school is offered for grades Pre-K through 6th grade.  We offer three separate classes grouped according to age:  Pre-K and Kindergarten;  grades 1,2, 3;  and grades 4, 5, 6.   Each class meets at 10am in the downstairs of the parish hall.

The classes are taught by parent volunteers and we are always open to allowing new parishioners to get involved.  We have brand new teaching facilities as well as a new curriculum that follows the liturgical calendar of the Episcopal Church so that the children are studying the same scripture as the adults in the service.  This is one of many ways that we at St. Christopher’s are attempting to promote a common community centered on God.

Confirmation Class

For children ages 13 and up, Confirmation Class is an important step.  As a sacrament of the Episcopal Church, the intent of this class is to allow students to take ownership of their faith by learning about God and the history of the Christian Church.  By studying the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer students will begin to understand both their own spiritual journey as well as the greater journey of the Christian Church as a whole.  This class meets in the library (the first door on the right when entering the parish hall).  It is taught by Skip Irvine, a parent of two and longtime parishioner.

Young Adult A.M. Meeting

Young adults, whether confirmed or not, are always welcome to join the “A.M.“ class at 10am on Sunday mornings.  The class’ title comes from the Greek words arche and  mueo, meaning “beginning” and “the initiation into mystery.”  We at St. Christopher’s believe that young adults live in a unique place where the mysteries of God and the challenges of life meet head-on.   In our A.M. class young adults are offered a safe place to explore those mysteries and seek God in Scripture, prayer, worship, and community.   This class meets in the downstairs of the parish hall in the Youth Room and is taught by our youth minister, Joshua Walters.   For more information, see what’s happening in the A.M. on the Youth webpage.
