Azalea Day

After more than a week of rain, the expectations for Azalea Day were rather low. We were even scrambling to find the old Rainy Day Plans. But on the day itself, the weather was nearly perfect, and the incredible power of the St Christopher’s community became apparent as our team turned out in force and went into action.
Although the start was rather slow, the crowds were soon flooding in and started enjoying the ambience of Azalea Day: relaxed, slightly old-fashioned, fun, friendly, a great place to spend a day. When it was all done we were left with only five hamburgers, we went through nearly six hundred lemons, the plants sold out, the chicken salad luncheon was finished up and Delicious Delites was cleaned out.
The final figures are not in yet but the early information is that we had a great year with the proceeds being as good if not better than ever – even in this difficult economy. It takes a fully engaged community to accomplish this kind of success. That’s what St. Christopher’s is all about. For decades this community has melded their time, talent and financial support for a higher cause – Outreach. This year’s success brings help for those in need at a time when the need has never been so great. In turn, we received and embraced the benefits of friendship, camaraderie and the overwhelming sense of doing something truly important.
Our parish is made up of highly talented and wise and generous individuals with the flexibility to lead when necessary and follow when asked. Each and every individual and team did a terrific job, and proved once again the power of community. Both Susan and I want to thank everyone for their good will, hard work, personal sacrifice and sometimes heroic efforts to ensure Azalea Day’s success.

ECS Afternoon Tea
March 25, 2009
On Wednesday March 25th over thirty five women from St Christopher’s Church gathered in the parish Library for the ECS Good Friends Grocery Gift Card Tea. It was a delightful opportunity to “taste” some delicious delicacies and “see” new friends as well as renew relationships. Conversations flowed in abundance as did the tea. Amazingly $2,695 was donated to provide food cards to those in need. Many, many thanks to all who attended and for your generous donations! Thank you also to Bill Wood who was man enough to attend a ladies tea. A special thank you to the committee who worked so hard pulling this event together to benefit a great cause. A particular thanks to our head teacher and photographer Shawna Minnucci and also to Kim Shiley, the new Director of Development for ECS who shared some of her journey with us as well as her hopes for ECS. Kim is a wonderful addition to ECS and we truly enjoyed getting to know her. Thank you again to all those involved, what a wonderful experience this was!
